Winter Legacy -4.4-

Cupid stared at the woman as she slept, he was tempted to wrap his arms around her neck or put a pillow over her face, but he couldn't. His head snapped up in shock when a new consciousness touched his, it didn't belong to Delvin or Angel or even Hayley for that matter. The baby was uncomfortable with Hayley lying on her back, it preferred her to lay on her side so that it could get comfortable against her lungs. Cupid stood marveling over his unborn child's thoughts, he felt the baby shift and kick until it was pushed up as far as it could get against her chest so that it could hear the thumping of her heart.

Cupid stood staring down at his sleeping wife for sometime, curiously he pushed his mind against Hayley's, her thoughts were dark and depressing with a few sparks of joy, all her happy thoughts were centered around him and their children. Frustrated that he couldn't stay angry with her Cupid left the house, it was time he visited his brother.

Shayne invited his big brother in, "I was wondering if you were still alive." He joked. Cupid tried to focus on his brother but his niece caught his attention. 

"Hello Teresa." He said and went to the toddler, she opened up her chubby arms for Cupid to lift her up, he did and wasn't even tempted by the sweet smell of her innocent blood. "Oh my God, you're a daddy." He marveled over the child who was the spitting image of Kacey, her mother. He mused over how his toddling niece's thoughts were nowhere near as complex as his baby's or even his unborn's.

"Shayne, can we talk?" He asked. "I uh...I need to tell you about my wife, my new baby and the one on the way."

Shayne fumbled with the plate he was holding, "You're fucking with me." He narrowed his eyes at his brother's and frowned, "Cupid...your eyes..."

Hayley waddled around the house, she was done with being pregnant, the unborn baby's mind was far more complex than his sister's before him, so much so that she already knew she was having a boy. He actually understood the muffled voices that reached him through the amniotic fluid, he was sensitive to feelings and constantly let her know that he did not enjoy the uncertainty and fear she felt. When he got bigger, he began to kick her when she had one of her dark moments and that immediately made her smile.

Cupid was getting in touch with his family, he felt so disconnected from them. Snowy was confused, she had no idea her cousin was seeing anyone, didn't even know he was still in town and suddenly he invited her over to meet his daughter and wife, that wife being very pregnant.

"How are you liking our family's main house?" Snowy questioned the heavily pregnant woman. By the end of their conversation though she had fallen in love with her cousin's wife.

Hayley was tired of being pregnant and the baby was tired of being cramped, he kicked her all the time and protested his tight living quarters. "You have to stay in there a bit longer Comet, Mommy wants to make sure you're ready."

Cupid had surprised her a few weeks ago when the baby was complaining profusely and struggling to get comfortable. "Comet, you're hurting Mommy, behave yourself." He had scolded, since then they had begun to call the baby by that name.

Obediently Comet put up with his cramped quarters, then one night, after an exceptionally hard kick, he realized that the fluid around him had decreased significantly, he asked his mother about this. "You broke Mommy's water." Hayley said through clenched teeth.

Cupid had been out promoting businesses and making public appearances when his agent's cell phone rang. Before the man could say anything Cupid was gone.

The next morning it was time for a birthday, Cupid had invited some of his family over, Shayne picked up his niece, insisting that he do the honors, while Coco stood back.

"Snowy, hurry the hell up!" Cupid shouted to his cousin who was standing outside procrastinating. 

Cupid's little Angel grew up into her father's hair and dark skin and glowing violet eyes. Her father fell in love with her all over again.

He handed her her favorite toy Puzzles, the girl immediately sunk her teeth into the teddy's neck.

"Oh my..." Coco's mouth fell open.

"She's teething." Cupid said quickly and ushered his family outside.

Cupid had taken to interacting with Angel, who understood that a person's mind was his own space and he deserved some peace and quiet in his head, unlike Comet who was not at all shy about letting his parents know when he wanted attention by bashing his way into their minds, despite whatever blocks they put up, their son found his way into their heads.

Hayley held up her son and bounced him around lightly, she was worried. Shawn would literally kill to have the baby's mind skills, she knew that for the safety of the world she and her husband would have to keep this a secret. She spent every day conveying the urgent need for secrecy to her stubborn infant son. Thus far he did not try to control anybody's mind, but Hayley had no doubt that her son was capable of it and prayed that he would never do something like that.
